Der Dokumentarfilm THE POTENTIAL OF NOISE begibt sich auf die Suche nach dem Menschen und Produzenten Conny Plank, er ist aber auch eine Reise durch die Musikgeschichte der 1970er und -80er Jahre.
Konrad ‚Conny‘ Plank gilt als einer der innovativsten Sounddesigner seiner Zeit. Die Aufnahmen, die zwischen den 1960er und 1980er Jahren in seinem Tonstudio bei Köln entstanden sind, revolutionierten die Musikwelt. Er war der Pionier des „Krautrock“ und ebnete den Weg für die klanglichen Innovationen der elektronischen Musik. Bands und Künstler wie Kraftwerk, Neu!, Can, Whodini, Brian Eno, DAF, Gianna Nannini, Ultravox und die Eurythmics sind sich einig, dass ihre Karrieren ohne das Talent von Conny Plank anders verlaufen wären. Conny Plank starb im Alter von 47 Jahren. Seiner Frau, der Schauspielerin Christa Fast, und seinem 13-jährigen Sohn Stephan hinterließ er ein fast überall bekanntes Tonstudio. 25 Jahre später begibt sich sein Sohn auf die Suche nach seinem Vater und dessen Bedeutung als Produzent. Da alle diese Musiker und Musikerinnen Stephan von klein auf aus dem Studio kannten, gibt dieser Film einen ungewöhnlich intimen und emotionalen Einblick in die Arbeit der Künstlerinnen und Künstler mit Conny Plank.
Der Film wird in Anwesenheit von Stephan Plank gezeigt, der im Anschluss zum Gespräch zur Verfügung steht.

The documentary THE POTENTIAL OF NOISE is a search for the man and producer Conny Plank, but it is also a journey through the music history of the 1970s and 80s.
Konrad ‚Conny‘ Plank is regarded as one of the most innovative sound designers of his time. The recordings he made in his studio near Cologne between the 1960s and 1980s revolutionised the music world. He pioneered ‚Krautrock‘ and paved the way for the sonic innovations of electronic music. Bands and artists such as Kraftwerk, Neu!, Can, Whodini, Brian Eno, DAF, Gianna Nannini, Ultravox and the Eurythmics all agree that their careers would have been different without the talent of Conny Plank. Conny Plank died at the age of 47. He left his wife, actress Christa Fast, and his 13-year-old son Stephan a recording studio that was known almost everywhere. 25 years later, his son sets out to find his father and his significance as a producer. As all these musicians knew Stephan from his early days in the studio, this film gives an unusually intimate and emotional insight into the artists‘ work with Conny Plank.
The film will be screened in the presence of Stephan Plank, who will be available for a Q&A afterwards.
